Media: Terrazzo, Brass, Etched Sandstone,
Polished Black Granite
Size: Terrazzo Floor, 32 ft x 32 ft. Exterior
Wall; 6 ft x 49 ft x 5 ft.
Place: Colorado State University - Pueblo,
Chemistry Building
This public art was a collaboration with the
Chemistry faculty.
We chose a phase 'pathway' from a number of my concepts. The
'Phase Pathway' metaphorically represented the 'pathway' taken
to an education in chemistry.
We created a 'Phase Pathway:H20' utilizing water as a solid,
liquid and gas.
Inside: For the lobby floor inside the Chemistry Building,
we decided to think in terms of gas H2O molecules in the center
of the circular terrazzo floor and liquid H2O molecules in the
outer edges of the circle.
Outside: The solid, or ice H2O molecules are represented
outside on the 50 ft. wall next to the building entrance. This
sandstone wall is etched with the solid molecular structure,
the oxygen molecules and the hydrogen molecule is represented
by polished black granite semispheres in a gradation of sizes.
Three foot diameter semi-spheres provide seating on the ground.
